Una parte del presente artículo se presentó en forma de comunicación al XIII Coloquio de Geografía del Turismo, Ocio y Recreación, celebrado en Barcelona entre los días 14 y 16 de junio de 2012. El alojamiento en los territorios rurales valencianos experimentó un crecimiento importante durante la implantación de las iniciativas Leader, Leader 2 y Leader+, entre 1991 y 2006, así como de los programas Proder y Proder II, entre 1996 y 2006. En la Comunidad Valenciana, alrededor del 30% de las inversiones de Leader y el 16% de las inversiones de Proder se realizaron en alojamientos rurales. This study is intended to delve into the tastes and preferences of tourists visiting rural areas in Spain as an alternative to the traditional sun and beach holiday that dominates Spanish tourism. This paper is focused on the demand side of rural tourism; more specifically the extent to which tourists visiting a Spanish rural area. El Alto Palancia region, exhibit different behaviours depending on age, gender, incomes and educational background.
